We are seeking a meticulous, proactive, and hands-on SHEQ Officer to join our packaging facility in Durban. This critical role ensures our operations consistently meet stringent Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) standards across all production lines.

Experience in HACCP / ISO 22000 and OHSA competence, audits, food safety and compliance, within a FMCG, dry foods, pharma packaging. The ideal candidate must be experienced in closing out audits, independently manage investigations and run with SHEQ matters from start to finish, without adversely affecting operations.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee SHEQ compliance across all shifts in dry food and pharmaceutical packaging environments.
Develop, implement, and maintain Health & Safety management systems.
Conduct risk assessments on machinery, materials, and manual handling processes.
Monitor and enforce safety protocols, including PPE usage and lockout/tagout procedures.
Lead incident and accident investigations, implement corrective actions, and manage COID reporting to the Department of Employment and Labour.
Manage waste disposal and recycling in compliance with environmental regulations.
Ensure quality control systems align with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 22000, and customer standards.
Facilitate SHEQ training for factory teams and supervisors.
Maintain all audit and regulatory documentation and ensure audit readiness.
Lead health and safety committee meetings, follow up on actions, and coordinate emergency drills.
Conduct internal audits and site inspections, supporting external audit readiness.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and track corrective actions.
Requirements
Diploma in Safety Management, Environmental Science, or a related field (degree preferred).
Minimum 3 years' experience in a SHEQ role within FMCG, dry food, or pharmaceutical packaging/production.
Strong working knowledge of OHS Act, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 22000 (ISO 45001 advantageous).
Proven experience with HACCP systems, food safety audits, and closing out audit findings.
Ability to manage investigations and SHEQ matters end-to-end without disrupting operations.
Excellent communication, planning, and report-writing skills.
Proven experience with internal and external audit processes.
High attention to detail with the ability to collaborate across departments.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel between sites.
