The SHE Operations Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety, health, and environmental (SHE) protocols within the organisation. This role ensures that all operations comply with regulatory standards and industry best practices, particularly within logistics and supply chain management. The SHE Operations Specialist conducts audits, manages risk assessments, and drives continuous improvement in SHE performance through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field
Additional certifications in SHE management, Risk Management, or Logistics are advantageous
Experience
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in SHE Operations, Logistics, or a related field
Proven track record in developing and implementing SHE protocols and conducting compliance audits
Duties
Develop and maintain emergency response plans, ensuring team and equipment readiness, and plan and conduct emergency drills and exercises
Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrences, ensuring lessons learned are communicated and applied
Conduct inspections and audits in accordance with minimum regulatory requirements and industry best practices to ensure ongoing compliance
Develop safety management standards and protocols for logistics and supply chain, including Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) and Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP)
Implement logistics and supply chain risk management strategies, including executing supplier audits in engineering, transport, raw materials, and construction sectors
Compile segment-specific standards and procedures aligned with Group minimum requirements to ensure consistency across operations
Schedule and execute supplier audits to ensure compliance with SHE requirements, particularly in high-risk areas such as engineering and transport
Review tender documents for procurement purposes and potential suppliers and transporters to align with mandated SHE requirements
Develop, implement, and monitor SHE policies and procedures, ensuring they are up-to-date and reflect the latest regulatory standards
Ensure compliance with SHE regulations, standards, and certifications, staying current with regulatory changes and updates
Collaborate and engage with internal and external stakeholders on SHE matters, driving improvements and ensuring effective communication of SHE standards
Conduct root risk assessment reviews to identify and mitigate potential risks within operations
Oversee vehicle compliance with explosive regulations (CIE regulations) and ensure that all vehicles meet the necessary safety standards
Manage camera data collection for behaviour monitoring, converting data into actionable insights for coaching and escalation of unwanted behaviours
Plan and execute mock emergency planning exercises to ensure readiness and compliance with emergency response protocols
Job Competencies
Knowledge
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in SHE operations, logistics, or a related field
Proven track record in developing and implementing SHE protocols and conducting compliance audits
Familiar / Competent in Microsoft Office
Certifications
Certification in SHE Management (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) is essential
Certification in HIRA, HAZOP, or risk management is highly desirable
Certification related to logistics or supply chain management is a plus
Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in risk management
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
Proficiency in conducting audits and inspections, with attention to detail
Ability to develop and implement effective SHE policies and procedures
Competence in data management and the ability to convert data into actionable insights
General
The candidate needs to have sound understanding of implementation, maintenance and auditing of ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and ISO 45001 risk assessment requirements
