Here is an exciting opportunity to join our Platinum Business as a Project Shaft Ventilation Engineer responsible for developing and maintaining the overall Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene systems and programmes, to meet business plan life of mine requirements, as well as providing the Operational Area Management with the specialist Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene expertise, to ensure a safe and healthy work environment, to minimise pure risk and litigation and adverse publicity.

Our Platinum business mines, processes and refines the entire range of platinum group metals (PGMs): platinum, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, iridium and osmium. The focus areas for this role will be to:

• Ensure that legal requirements, AAP standards and policies are adhered to achieving legal compliance.
• Develop, maintain and manage all mandatory code of practices, ventilation and occupational hygiene related standards and procedures.
• Maintain Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene strategies, systems and compliance measurements.
• Conduct risk assessments and participate in audits and risk management.
• Report findings and recommend appropriate interventions and reporting structures.
• Maintaining asset management and equipment.
• Assist in long-term ventilation and occupational hygiene planning (life of mine).
• Contribute to the achievement of the objectives and targets of the Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene Department and those of the business area.
• Develop and maintain VUMA-3D ventilation models for current, future and project business plan requirement.
• Extensive report writing skills to provide clarity w.r.t. Ventilation and Refrigeration requirements to the project management team.

This role is in the MRM department at a Band 6 level reporting to the Chief Ventilation Engineer.

Qualifications

You will be required to have:

• Grade 12 with Maths & Science.
• Intermediate Certificate in Mine Environmental Control (Paper 1 and 2).
• Chamber of Mines (COM) Certificate in Mine Environmental Control (Paper 1 to 6).
• Membership of the Mine Ventilation Society of South Africa.
• Extensive computer literacy in MS Office, SAP, Vuma 3D and VentSim.

Knowledge, skills and experience required:

• Qualified as Ventilation professional and occupational hygienist with five years experience in ventilation.
• At least 3 years' Experience as a Shaft Ventilation Engineer in the active role Planning Projects and reporting

Formal training or practical experience in: Occupational Health legislation, Management system formulation and implementation, Hazard identification and risk assessment, specialised technical programs will be advantageous.

Additional Information

• MHSA and Reg Legislative understanding
• Ventilation project implementation (Raiseboring of Ventilation Shaft) will be advantageous
• Knowledge of managing complex Ventilation circuits with heat-loads and hot underground water
