Role Overview

As the Senior Test Engineer/Lead, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality, performance, and

reliability of Payara's software solutions. You will lead quality assurance initiatives, champion automation

strategies, and guide the implementation of best practices across teams. Collaborating closely with engineers,

developers, and stakeholders, you will oversee the testing lifecycle, from strategy and design to execution and

continuous improvement, while mentoring QA team members to enhance capability and consistency.

Location: Global (100% Remote) - Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Compensation: Rate dependant on local market location and experience

What you will do

Ownership and responsibility for quality and automation Resolve technical issues of projects and explore alternate designs Participate as a team member and foster teamwork by inter-group coordination within the modules of the project Collaborate and communicate effectively with stakeholders and ensure client satisfaction Train and coach members of project groups to ensure effective knowledge management activity Lead implementation of best practice, process improvements and modernisation initiatives Analyse test results, logs and execution reports

What you will bring

3+ years Java development experience 4+ years CI/CD experience 5+ years of software testing experience 4+ years' experience with test automation frameworks and technologies, such as: Gherkin, Selenium, Junit, Jenkins, Specflow and Maven An understanding of Git and Jira Comprehensive understanding and experience with Linux commands Experience in leading/coaching QA resources

Desirable Technical Skills

Software testing experience in middleware enterprise Java technologies, such as: Oracle WebLogic, JBoss, Apache Tomcat, Glassfish, WebSphere Experience in development or use of Jakarta TCK Knowledge/experience of test automation framework for API, Microservices, Web portal and performance testing using Jmeter Knowledge/experience of UI and end to end testing Knowledge/experience of Dockers technology Previous knowledge of Cloud environments, such as: Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, RedHat

Excellent problem solving and analytical skills Team player with strong communication skills Excellent collaborator with engineers of mixed specialisms Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to identify and manage risks Ability to manage and work with competing priorities Passionate about scalability reliability and test strategies
Ability to lead a team of QAs in process improvements, best practices and knowledge transfer

Essential Qualifications

Fluent in English written and verbal communication Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline Alternatively, a possession of a recognised professional certification in software testing such as CAST (Certified Associate in Software Testing), CQSA (Certified Software Quality Analyst), or ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualifications Board)
