As a Senior Medical Technologist in our Microbiology Laboratory, you are a key driver of operational excellence and scientific precision. Your role involves overseeing the processing of specimens across all benches, ensuring that every step meets our high standards. Role Requirements
To thrive in this role, you need:

  • a B.Sc. or a Biomedical Technologist Diploma, along with registration as a Medical Technician with the HPCSA.
These qualifications reflect your readiness to contribute meaningfully to a high-performance environment. With at least six months of experiential learning in a molecular laboratory, you have gained valuable hands-on experience in a fast-paced, detail-oriented setting. This experience equips you to step confidently into a role where accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement are part of everyday life. Skills Requirements
This role calls for a well-rounded skill set. You are comfortable using computer systems to support laboratory operations and data management. Your fluency in both English and Afrikaans ensures clear communication across teams and with clients. Strong numerical reasoning supports your accuracy in calculations and data interpretation, while your communication skills help foster a people-centric culture that values engagement, teamwork, and shared success.
Role Impact
In this role, your impact is both operational and strategic. You help manage daily workflow and task distribution, ensuring that specimens are processed efficiently and results are delivered with precision. You contribute to the development and evaluation of new assays, support quality and accreditation standards, and assist with maintaining laboratory systems and stock levels. Your role also includes training and assessing staff, helping to build a capable and confident team. Through your leadership and client interactions, you help reinforce Ampath's reputation for excellence and innovation in molecular diagnostics.
