Description

  • Technical development and implementation of databases.
  • Consolidates and optimises available data warehouse infrastructure.
  • Designs and implements ETL procedures for intake of data from both internal and outside sources; as well as ensure data is verified and quality is checked.
  • Designs and implements ETL processes and data architecture to ensure proper functioning of analytics lad, as well as client’s or third-party’s reporting environments and dashboard.
  • Carry out monitoring, tuning, and database performance analysis.
  • Performs the design and extension of data marts, Meta data, and data models.
  • Ensures that all the data warehouse architecture codes are maintained in a version control system.
  • Designs and implements warehouse database structures.
  • Creates the databases and database objects such as the tables, tablespaces, synonyms, views, triggers, stored procedures, defaults, domains, and indexes.
  • Analyses, reviews, and writes applications and programs, based on customer needs and requirements.
  • Conducts analysis of customer needs and developing solutions to software challenges.
  • Assists with querying and extracting data from large databases.
  • Produces data reports from complex data sets.
  • Maintains confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
  • Design and develop reports and analytics capability.
  • Liaises with the data quality manager to identify and resolve data issues through configuration of data cleansing and de-duplication software.
  • Manages the database aspects of the reporting and analytics platform(s) to ensure that reporting jobs are successfully run and analytics data aligns to timeliness / completeness requirements.
  • Liaises with database administrators to ensure that the data warehouse is tuned for optimal performance.
  • Liaises with business analysts and project managers to develop and refine reporting and analytics requirements.
  • Ensures that all technology solutions are properly architected and specified.
  • Evaluate code to ensure the validity and operability.
  • Ensure coding structures to predefined architecture.
  • Build and maintain reusable code libraries.
  • Code development in pre-defined coding languages that aligns to UFS development needs.
  • Optimisation of applications in terms of speed, scalability, and operability.
  • The incumbent will be expected to work overtime as and when required.
  • Responsible to transform design and user interface mock-ups into functional web applications and systems powered by CMS.
  • Ensures that HTML / CSS is cross-browser and standards compliant and meets accessibility requirements.
  • Integrates web applications and custom systems with existing applications on campus or third- party / open-source platforms.
  • Resolve and or escalate issues in a timely fashion.
  • Integrates data from various back-end services and databases.
  • Determine technical requirements.
  • Evaluate codes to ensure that it is valid, properly structured, meets industry standards and is compatible with browsers, devices, or operating systems.
  • Ensure that all user input is validated before submitting to back-end.
  • Manages timelines.
  • Informs the supervisor of risks to projects.
  • Code testing for sign-off.
Inherent Job Requirements:
  • A B.Sc. degree in Information Technology or a B.Tech. degree in Information Technology or a B.Com. degree in Information Technology on NQF level seven (7) or a 3-year National Diploma in Information Technology on NQF level six (6) or any 3-year related B. degree with working experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience of code development, data design, modelling and application/implementation.
Recommendations:
  • A relevant honours degree on NQF level 8 in Education.
  • Knowledge of UFS administrative and financial systems.
  • A thorough understanding of PeopleSoft system.
  • Knowledge of the processes and procedures of the Faculty of Education and University.
  • Knowledge of the Faculty of Education rules and curricula.
