Our client is seeking a Senior Specialist - RD Design (Packaging) to join their team, based in Ladysmith (KZN). Successful candidate will be responsible for Researching, Designing and Developing packaging for the company's finished products, ensuring adequate protection of the product and accurate and attractive display for marketing purposes. Minimum Requirements:-
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required
- 2 Years' experience in Packaging Design preferred
- Materials Engineering advantageous
- Proficient with computer-assisted (CAD) software
- Knowledge of packaging material and design
- Proficient in MS Office Suite or related software
- Technological knowledge
- Complex problem-solving skills, Mathematics and physical skills
- Innovative thinking
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift at least 30 kg's at once
- Collaborates with staff from marketing, manufacturing, graphics and shipping departments to optimize package design
- Oversees the design of the finished product packaging, emphasizing marketability and cost efficiency
- Test the packaging systems and components for new and existing products
- Uses computer-assisted design (CAD) software to develop point-of-sales displays for products and packaging
- Researches and introduces prototype packaging using materials such as folding cartons, plastics, and corrugated shipping containers
- Drafts specifications for new packing materials that will adequately protect finished products
- Manage and implement cost reduction / quality improvement projects
- Ensure products comply to standard requirements and safety
- Analysis data and preparing reports
- Other duties, as required
