Role Overview



We are seeking a Senior Software Developer / Technical Lead to take full ownership of an existing software platform inherited through a recent acquisition. This role is critical to bringing structure, control, and long-term technical direction to a codebase and API stack that is currently dated and built on legacy design patterns.

While the original developer has been retained, the business now requires a senior technical leader who can objectively assess what has been inherited, define what "good" looks like, and reshape the platform into a cleaner, more maintainable, and scalable architecture.

This is a hands-on role requiring deep technical involvement, strong architectural judgement, and the confidence to set direction. Experience within broadband ISP or carrier environments would be advantageous, but the priority is senior technical ownership and leadership.

Key Responsibilities



Platform Ownership & Technical Direction



Take end-to-end ownership of the existing application stack and APIs inherited through acquisition Conduct a structured technical assessment of the current platform, identifying risks, constraints, and opportunities Define and execute a clear technical roadmap to modernise and stabilise the platform Prevent further lock-in to legacy structures by introducing cleaner frameworks, patterns, and design principles

Legacy Refactor & Modernisation



Refactor and redesign existing services to improve maintainability, scalability, and performance Introduce consistent coding standards, documentation, and architectural patterns Balance technical debt reduction with ongoing business delivery

Leadership & Technical Authority



Act as the senior technical authority for the platform within the group Provide direction, mentorship, and technical challenge where appropriate Play a key role in longer-term decisions around team structure and capability Define and embed best practice engineering standards

Knowledge Transfer & Group Integration



Pull platform knowledge back into the wider group to reduce single-point dependency Improve documentation, onboarding, and system transparency Align the platform with broader group technology strategy and standards

Future Projects & Growth



Enable parallel delivery of additional projects once stable leadership is in place Support future integrations, enhancements, and adjacent initiatives Ensure the platform is positioned for long-term scalability and maintainability

Required Skills & Experience



Proven experience as a Senior Software Developer, Lead Developer, or Technical Lead Strong experience taking ownership of legacy codebases and modernising them Solid architectural and system design capability Strong API design, integration, and refactoring experience Comfortable being hands-on while providing strategic technical direction Ability to assess inherited systems and make sound long-term decisions Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders

Highly Desirable (Nice to Have)



Experience in broadband ISP, carrier, or telecoms platforms Experience in post-acquisition technical integration Exposure to high-availability or regulated environments Experience designing systems for scale and long-term supportability

Pay: R70000,00 - R85000,00 per month
