The Senior Sea Freight Specialist is responsible for managing and coordinating international ocean freight operations, ensuring efficient and cost-effective movement of goods. This role involves end-to-end coordination of sea freight shipments, including booking, documentation, compliance, and customer service. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of international shipping regulations, excellent organizational skills, and experience dealing with shipping lines, customs, and freight forwarding agents.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Trade, or related field preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in sea freight operations or freight forwarding, with exposure to both import and export processes.
FIATA diploma, IATA/FIATA certification, or similar credentials are an advantage.
Strong knowledge of international shipping practices, Incoterms, and maritime documentation.
Excellent negotiation skills with carriers and logistics providers.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail in documentation and compliance.
Proficiency with freight management systems (e.g., CargoWise, SAP, or similar).
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach to logistics challenges.
Responsibilities:
Manage the full life cycle of sea freight shipments (FCL and LCL), including booking, routing, documentation, and delivery.
Liaise with carriers, shipping lines, and third-party logistics providers to negotiate rates and ensure timely movement of cargo.
Prepare and review shipping documentation (e.g., Bill of Lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin).
Ensure compliance with all international trade laws, incoterms, and customs regulations.
Coordinate customs clearance procedures in collaboration with customs brokers and internal compliance teams.
Resolve operational issues such as delays, demurrage, detention, and claims.
Maintain accurate records in transportation management systems (TMS) and ERP platforms.
Track and report on shipment status, proactively communicating with customers and stakeholders.
Support junior team members and provide guidance on complex shipping requirements.
Identify opportunities to streamline logistics processes and reduce costs.
