CONTEXT | THE ROLE
As a
Senior Researcher
, you will be responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing user and market research initiatives to ensure our solutions solve real problems and meet quality standards. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product owners, designers, developers, and other stakeholders, to integrate insights into every aspect of the project lifecycle.
This role requires excellent organisational skills, a deep understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights to keep product strategy on track.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES | THE WHAT & THE HOW
THE ESSENTIALS
Research Planning and Execution:
Develop and implement comprehensive research plans, defining research scope, goals, timelines, and deliverables.
Monitor and track research progress, identifying and resolving potential issues (such as recruitment or data gaps) to ensure timely and successful project completion.
Budget and Resource Management:
Collaborate with the finance team and Product Director to manage research budgets (e.g., incentives, tools, and recruiting platforms).
Manage resources effectively to ensure optimal team performance and valid data collection.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, designers, and quality assurance, to ensure effective collaboration and communication of user needs.
Foster a positive and collaborative team environment, promoting open communication and knowledge sharing regarding user behaviour and market trends.
Stakeholder Management and Communication:
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding user insights, understanding their requirements, expectations, and feedback.
Provide regular research updates to clients, addressing any concerns and maintaining a strong client relationship.
Ensure that the research scope is clearly understood and documented and that stakeholders are aligned with the delivery expectations.
Regulatory Compliance:
Make sure that communication with stakeholders and clients is consistent and keeps any regulatory requirements such as
POPIA, GDPR, or HIPAA
in mind, particularly regarding sensitive user data.
Identify opportunities for future product growth with the relevant client based on research findings.
Research Reporting:
Ensure that standardised research reports or insight playbacks are published and distributed to relevant stakeholders, including the customer.
Keep the client informed of progress by sharing weekly reports and attending regular updates and alignment meetings with them.
Risk Management and Quality Assurance:
Proactively identify potential risks and issues (such as bias or sampling errors), developing mitigation plans to minimize project disruptions.
Ensure that research deliverables meet the highest quality standards and align with client expectations.
FINTECH, HEALTHCARE, AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCE:
Startups & Fintech:
Proven experience managing research projects within Fintech or technology-driven startup environments, where agility, innovation, and speed to market are critical.
Healthcare & Insurance (Required):
Demonstrated ability to navigate complex domains; specific experience in
Healthcare and Insurance
sectors is preferred to understand regulatory constraints and complex user journeys.
Demonstrated ability to lead product-focused initiatives -- from ideation through to launch -- with a deep understanding of how technology and user experience intersect in digital.
Evidence of working in fast-paced, scaling organisations, balancing multiple priorities while maintaining delivery excellence.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Anthropology, Social Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience:
7+ years of experience managing user research projects, with a focus on large-scale or complex initiatives.
Domain Expertise:
Strong preference for candidates with direct experience in
Healthcare, Insurance, and Fintech
industries.
Tools:
Advanced knowledge of research and project management tools, such as Dovetail, Figma, Maze, Jira, and collaboration platforms.
Methodologies:
Proven expertise in Agile (Scrum, Kanban) and a wide range of research methodologies (Usability Testing, Interviews, Surveys, Contextual Inquiry).
Leadership:
Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and guide cross-functional teams.
