WATER AND SANITATION Senior Professional Officer (Electrical Engineering)
Requirements
Minimum requirement of a relevant BTech degree in Electrical
Engineering.
Registration as a Professional Engineering Technologist with
ECSA.
Five (5) to eight (8) years' relevant experience post first relevant
tertiary qualification.
Valid driver's licence (Code B or C1 or EB).
Key Performance Areas
Responsible for overseeing the maintenance, engineering, and
lifecycle management of medium voltage (MV) electrical
infrastructure, with a specialized focus on protection relays
and schemes, and variable frequency controllers/ drives
(VFD's /VFC's) within Water and Sanitation.
Lead maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of protection
systems associated with MV electrical systems, including
switchgear, transformers and motors.
Develop and implement maintenance strategies.
Conduct Fault investigations, root cause analysis, and implement
corrective actions to prevent recurring failures.
Configure, test and commission protection relay systems
(Overcurrent, differential, earth fault, etc.) to ensure network
reliability and personnel safety.
Perform relay coordination studies and settings adjustments to
optimize protection schemes.
Oversee periodic relay testing and ensure compliance with
standards.
Manage installation, programming and maintenance of VFD's /
VFC's in water/ wastewater applications.
Diagnose and resolve VFD's /VFC's related issues to minimise
unplanned downtime
Prepare technical specifications for new equipment and oversee
contractor work.
Provide guidance to junior engineers and technicians on
protection
systems and VFD's /VFC's operations.
