CONTEXT | THE ROLE
As a Senior Product Designer, you will be responsible for designing and evolving complex digital platforms within the
Healthcare and Insurance sectors
. You will ensure that user journeys--from patient intake to policy management--are intuitive, accessible, and compliant. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product owners, developers, QA, and other stakeholders, to manage all aspects of the design lifecycle. This role requires excellent organisational skills, a deep understanding of human-centered design, and the ability to anticipate and resolve usability issues to keep projects on track.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES | THE WHAT & THE HOW
THE ESSENTIALS
Product Design and Strategy:
Develop and implement comprehensive design strategies, defining user flows, information architecture, and high-fidelity deliverables.
Translate complex insurance logic and healthcare data into clear, accessible, and user-friendly interfaces.
o Monitor and track design progress, identifying and resolving potential usability issues to ensure timely and successful project completion.
User Research and Validation:
Collaborate with product teams to conduct user research, specifically navigating the sensitivities of healthcare patients and insurance policyholders.
Validate design decisions through usability testing to ensure the product solves real human problems effectively.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, designers, and quality assurance, to ensure effective collaboration and communication.
o Foster a positive and collaborative team environment, promoting open communication and knowledge sharing regarding design systems and patterns.
Stakeholder Management and Communication:
Serve as the primary point of contact for design reviews, understanding client requirements, expectations, and feedback.
Provide regular design updates to clients, addressing any concerns and maintaining a strong client relationship.
Ensure that the scope is clearly understood and documented and that stakeholders are aligned with the delivery expectations.
Communicate the Platform45 Way of Work and ensure that stakeholders are informed if there are any changes.
o Make sure that communication with stakeholders and clients is consistent and keeps any regulatory requirements such as
HIPAA, POPIA or GDPR
in mind.
Design Quality Assurance:
Ensure that project deliverables meet the highest quality standards and align with client expectations.
Conduct thorough design QA (visual and functional) throughout the project lifecycle to ensure the developed product matches the design intent.
HEALTHCARE, INSURANCE, AND FINTECH EXPERIENCE
Proven experience designing products within Healthcare, Insurance, or Fintech environments, where complex data visualization, trust, and regulatory compliance are critical.
Demonstrated ability to lead product-focused initiatives -- from ideation through to launch -- with a deep understanding of how technology and user experience intersect in digital health or insure-tech.
Evidence of working in fast-paced, scaling organisations, balancing multiple priorities while maintaining delivery excellence.
Experience collaborating with product owners, UX/UI teams, and technical leads to align business objectives with product strategy and customer needs.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Interaction Design, HCI, Graphic Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
7+ years of experience
designing software development projects, with a focus on large-scale or complex initiatives in regulated industries.
Advanced knowledge of design and prototyping tools, such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, and collaboration platforms.
Proven expertise in Agile (Scrum, Kanban) and ability to integrate design sprints into traditional project management methodologies.
Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and guide cross-functional teams.
Strong problem-solving skills, including experience with designing for accessibility and complex logic flows.
* Strong data analysis skills to evaluate user behavior and inform strategic design decisions.
