Are you a highly experienced Health and Safety professional passionate about creating safe working environments? Komatsu South Africa, a leader in the Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) industry, is seeking a Senior Health and Safety Officer to join our dedicated SHE department at our Pinetown Branch.
In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in maintaining our robust SHE system, ensuring legal compliance, driving safety initiatives, and providing expert guidance across our operations, particularly within the mining and construction sectors.
Qualifications:
NQF 5 level registered safety qualification (COMSOC 1 and 2, SAMTRAC, SHEQMAN, SHEMTRAC, National Diploma in Safety Management SHEMBA, or equivalent NQF 5).
Internal auditing: ISO 9001,14001, 45001.
Train the trainer certification (an advantage).
Experience:
A minimum of 6 years' direct Health & Safety experience in the mining and/or construction industry is essential.
Competent A: Advantageous
Proven knowledge in:
Root Cause Analysis & Specialised Accident Investigation
OHS Act Legal Compliance Auditing (NQF 5) & In-depth OHS Act & Regulations
Incident Investigation, Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment
ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 Implementation
Relevant SABS/SANS Standards, COID Act, MHSA & industry-specific regulations.
First Aid Level 2.
Technical Skills: Intermediate MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Job specification:
Uses job profiles to audit validity of hazards, risks in each technical job and check annually
Assists in developing safe working instructions when required
Evaluates need for safety, firefighting and first aid training with line managers
Assists during audits providing safety committee members with required documentation
Provides input in annual skills needs analysis
Implements Safety Programs
Participates in disciplinary hearings in conjunction with HR with regard to Health and Safety issues
Compiles & disseminates promotional/awareness materials with regard to SHERQ
Maintains/checks maintenance of the SHE system in operational areas for relevance, completeness and legal compliance, as well as compliance with KSA policyChecks that technical staff working in the field have the correct & standard safety items
Coordinates the booking of medicals with service providers
Conducts internal safety compliance inspections
Completes monthly Health and Safety report
Completes and submits required training reports to training department
Plans, arranges and executes fire drills as per schedule
Plans SHE training for SHE officers, as well as other staff members on a rolling (cyclical) basis
Executes SHE training plan
Investigates SHE incidents
