RPO Recruitment's client is urgently seeking the expertise of a Senior Mine Manager Underground Operations to be based in the North West. The successful candidate will lead and manage the Underground Operations teams, systems and processes, as well as keep up to date with latest Underground Operations systems, processes and best practices and make suitable recommendations.
They will also be required to report on production performance, forecasts, and variances to head office or board.
Responsibilities:

• Develop and manage the annual operational and capital budgets.
• Work closely with senior management on business strategy, project development, and growth opportunities.
• Report on production performance, forecasts, and variances to head office or board.
• Champion a zero-harm culture and actively promote safety awareness across all levels.
• Implement and monitor effective SHEQ management systems and initiatives.
• Lead safety meetings, audits, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
• Drive proactive environmental management and rehabilitation practices.
• Oversee the entire mining operation, including production, maintenance, logistics, and technical services.
• Develop and execute short, medium, and long-term mine plans in collaboration with planning teams.
• Monitor and manage production targets, cost control, and overall operational efficiency.
• Ensure the safe, effective, and efficient use of equipment and resources.
• Analyze operational data to make informed decisions on continuous improvement.
• Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and other relevant legislation (e.g., MPRDA, NEMA).
• Appointed as a 2.6.1 in terms of MHSA - responsible for the health and safety of all employees under their area of control.
• Maintain legal appointments and ensure all subordinate managers and supervisors understand and perform their legal duties.
• Ensure proper risk assessments, audits, and inspections are regularly conducted.
• Investigate serious incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence

Requirements:

• Tertiary Qualification
• MBA advantageous
• Mine Managers' Certificate
• 5 years underground deep level mining experience
• 5 years' experience as an appointed Mine Manager 3.1 a
• Grade 12
• 5 years' experience in managing mining contractors
