Job Position : SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER
Responsibilities - Functional
Validates mechanical engineering deliverables
Ensures consistency across design packages
Supports technical reviews, HAZOP, design reviews, and client workshops
Commitment & Authorisations
Authorised to issue and approve mechanical technical specifications
Authorised to conduct vendor evaluations and technical adjudications
Authorised to validate mechanical design compliance with codes and statutory requirements
Objectives of the function
Deliver safe, compliant, and cost-effective mechanical designs
Ensure regulatory and client specification compliance
Provide technical leadership
Mentor junior engineers
Support commissioning and plant start-up activities
Mission and tasks
Specification and design of pressure-containing equipment
Prepare mechanical standards and technical specifications
Participate in PFD, P&ID and HAZOP reviews
Prepare mechanical flow diagrams and MCFDs
Issue enquiry documentation to vendors
Review vendor documentation and ensure compliance
Selection of vendors based on technical criteria
Conduct or supervise fabrication and installation inspections
Perform mechanical equipment sizing and calculations
Use PV Elite / COMPRESS for pressure equipment
Ensure correct application of ASME, API, TEMA, and statutory codes
Lead mechanical package execution within schedule and budget
Skills
Mechanical design and engineering fundamentals
Static and rotating equipment expertise
Advanced knowledge of ASME VIII/II/IX, TEMA, API codes
Strong specification and documentation capability
Proficiency in PV Elite / COMPRESS
Communication and stakeholder management skills
High attention to detail
Prerequisites
Knowledge of PER and SANS 347
Understanding of imported equipment documentation requirements
Strong planning and coordination abilities
Experience
Minimum 10 years' experience in contracting/project environment
Experience in petrochemical/chemical/refining industries
