Job Description

An established international R&D organisation specialising in advanced optical systems for the international civil and security sectors is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its innovative team.
This position is ideal for an experienced engineer with strong expertise in precision gimbal mechanisms, optical payload integration, and DTV or electro-optical camera systems. The successful candidate will take full ownership of the mechanical design lifecycle, from concept and modelling through to system integration and performance optimisation.
Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and development of advanced gimbal systems for electro-optical and DTV camera payloads
• Collaborate with optical, electronic, and control engineering teams to ensure seamless system integration
• Drive innovation in mechanical design, focusing on stability, performance, and environmental durability
• Conduct mechanical simulations, tolerance analyses, and environmental reliability testing
• Support prototype builds, verification, and validation in both R&D and field environments
• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and technicians.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor/Master in mechanical engineering from a recognised University
• Proven experience in gimbal system design is essential
• Background in DTV or electro-optical camera systems is highly advantageous
• Proficiency in 3D CAD design tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent
• Strong knowledge of precision mechanical systems, motion assemblies, and dynamic balancing
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
