Job Description


Minimum requirements:

  • Honours degree(s) in Engineering, Marketing or Business Management, Commerce or IT
  • Preferably an MBA or similar from a leading business school
  • 8 + years experience in telecommunications or a related technical sector in a medium- sized to large com
  • 6+ years experience to marketing or product management
  • 3+ years experience at managerial level (managing a team)
Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the overall revenue, churn, value perception and portfolio of High Value Prepaid Products.
  • Define and deliver the overall product strategy with Senior Segment Manager and manage the development of an integrated product roadmap.
  • Provide managerial and operational guidance to ensure the end to end, delivery of the product line, from inception to going live in the market, to product management, profitability management, product support, input into training material and eventual discontinuation of products.
  • Lead the team of product delivery managers to create and deliver positive customer lifetime values through agreed end to end product lifecycle management and customer experiences
  • As part of the Senior Management team the primary function is managing the teams performance, taking ownership of creating an internal and external customer centric environment for the product services team to carry out the strategic mission for the Product Department and align to the company's overall business strategies of revenue growth, customer experience excellence and maximising returns to shareholders.
  • Lead and manage the Product Delivery team by developing the Product Strategy and dashboard, supporting the Product Services roadmap, aligning output with the company's strategic and business plan objectives.
  • Lead and support product managers in delivering on a competitive strategy for the product portfolio to support all segments in all Regions
  • Work closely with Business Performance Management in understanding market trends and product performance
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive set of KPIs and/or SLAs against product launches, revenue and cost (development)
  • Support the development of a Segment Go To Market action plan that specifies how the department will reach target customers and achieve competitive advantage
  • Design product input into the Go To Market business canvas, clearly defining the engagement with the internal business stakeholders, the value proposition and customer segments on a national scale, cycles and offerings with predicted revenue
  • Manage the creation of product plans and forecasts, directing product managers to own this activity and regularly reviewing output
  • Manage the end to end product life cycle of the products against revenue, margin and customer base targets
  • Manage regular tracking and reporting of product performance across all product lines to ensure that product managers are optimising customer lifetime value by reducing churn, increasing revenue, improving margins and increasing sales volumes.
  • Evaluate the Go To Market plans and the SWOT analysis per product offering
  • Develop and maintain sound and healthy processes and working relationships with all other relevant stakeholders to ensure that the process of delivering on product objectives is optimized.
  • Deliver product performance improvement by collaborating closely across Commercial teams and wider in particular with Brand & Marketing, Consumer Sales, Customer Experience, Business, Corporate/Government and Business Intelligence
  • Manage and lead cross functional teams for the integration across the business to deliver an efficient Go To Market plan to ensure alignment of all key functions and entrenchment of deliveries throughout all customer interaction touch points
  • Engage Commercial Pricing team for input on pricing and tariffs, as well as sales/service based commissions for the product
  • Explore opportunities to review and refresh the product portfolio on a regular basis.
  • Ensure that product delivery managers are adequately engaged in identifying new product opportunities, product changes and enhancements and where necessary eliminating products and retiring products
  • Conduct regular assessment of divisional performance assessment against defined key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Keep abreast of the competitors products and activities in the market
  • Present and influence final decision makers, either integral and or external to obtain buy-in concepts and ideas
  • Review and sign-off final product documents for development and insertion into the market.
  • Prepare, control and administer the yearly budgets for the department
  • Develop and implement policies to achieve savings
  • Manage cost tracking and variation reports
  • Approve expenditure for the department
  • Inform Executive timeously of potential over-spend
  • Make recommendations for budget-affecting change requests
  • Approve expenditure for the department as per DOA
  • Lead and motivate staff to effectively deliver objectives, ensuring development opportunities, appraisal and management systems are embedded and relevant HR procedures are adhered to
  • Provide an advisory, support and mentorship function to enable staff to grow within their career
  • Maintain a low staff turnover rate
  • Initiate the appropriate Labour Relation action required within the department
  • Establish, evaluate and guide the departments Employee Performance Management programme
  • Set Key Performance Indicators targets and goals as per the departments strategy and business objectives.
  • Recruit employees; assign and direct work, oversee their development, identify training needs and maintain staff competence
  • Uphold HR policies and procedures
  • Ensure all activities meet and integrate with organisational requirements for quality management, legal stipulations, health and safety compliance, environmental policies and general duty of care
