Job Description

To strategically coordinate all climate change mitigation programs as outlined in the Durban climate change strategy and other sector special strategies and National Climate Change Act, 2024 and as well as manage technical, financial and legal staff members in the climate change mitigation branch.
This post reports to DEPUTY HEAD (CLIMATE CHANGE)
Key Responsibility Areas

• Manage and control branch staff.
• Formulate and monitor capital and operating budgets.
• Manage the implementation of Durban climate change strategy and related policies.
• Promoting and enabling climate change mitigation initiatives.
• Undertake to promote clean energy use.
• Enhance use of alternative sources of energy.
• Develop climate change mitigation sector plans.
• Promoting of renewable energy and green power.
• Introduction of climate change mitigation norms & standards.
• Initiate climate change monitoring and evaluation.
• Development of climate change mitigation reporting mechanisms.
• Capacity building in climate change mitigation.
• Expansion and promotion of climate change mitigation commitments.
• Align municipal policies & climate change mitigation goals and international protocols.

Essential Requirements

• Master's Degree (NQF Level 9) in the Environmental Science discipline or any other related and equivalent qualification.
• Professional registration with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) as a Professional Natural Scientist (Pr.Sci.Nat.).
• Valid motor vehicle driving license
• 7 years relevant experience of which 4 years must be at a management level.
• Computer Literacy.

Preferred Requirements

• Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) (NQF Level 10) in the Environmental Science discipline or any other related and equivalent qualification.
• 8 Years' experience at a management level, of which at least 5 years must be at a senior

management level.
