Senior Library Assistant (internal Applicants Only)

Job Description

The Senior Library Assistant will work closely with the librarians who support the Faculty of Health and Wellness and the Faculty of Applied Science on the District Six campus, as well as with the rest of the Faculty Support Teams on the other campuses of CPUT. Key tasks include the efficient delivery of high-quality services, administration, information support provision, health and safety, support collection development activities, liaison with faculty and students online and at the Information points in the library, and support Librarians with teaching and learning and basic research support activities as needed.
This Senior Library Assistant would be expected to provide a wide range of services at the District Six campus library and other sites when the need arises (including Granger Bay, Mowbray, Newlands, Tyger valley, and Bellville).
Please take note that the Faculty supported will be moving to other campuses in the future, and the person must be flexible to move to these sites of delivery as and when required. Working as part of the shift system and Saturdays might be required from time to time in support of the extended client service of the library.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Senior Certificate or equivalent Grade 12
  • National Diploma in Library and Information Studies (ND LIS), Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information studies (PGDPLIS), Bachelor of Information Science (B.Inf) or Equivalent 3 year Library and Information Science Qualification with 3 years relevant experience in a Higher Education Library or research Library.
OR
  • Bachelors Degree in Library and Information Science (B.Bibl- 4 year qualification), Bachelor of Information Science Honours (B.Inf Hon) or equivalent 4 year Library and Information Science qualification, and one year of relevant working experience in a Higher Education Library or research environment.
