Job Description

Head of Department
The HOD must manage the department effectively and efficiently in line with the CPUT policies and procedures specifically but not limited to (i) academic project management; (ii) research management; (iii) HR and staff management; (iv) financial management; and (v) student management.
Senior Lecturer
The successful candidate will teach Analytical Chemistry modules and supervise student projects up to Postgraduate level, will contribute to curriculum development in the Department, while providing support to the Department in pursuit of its objectives in teaching and learning, work integrated learning, service learning, and research.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Head of Department

  • Doctorate in Chemistry or equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience, with at least 3 years' experience as a Senior Lecturer.
  • The 5 years mentioned above must include 2 years' management experience related to the functions of a HOD (i.e academic management;curriculum development; quality assurance and accreditation processes; financial and HR management in a Department).
  • Research and supervision experience commensurate with the level of Senior Lecturer or above
Senior Lecturer
  • Doctorate in Chemistry or equivalent qualification.
  • A base qualification Chemistry or equivalent qualification
  • At least 4 years' relevant working experience, which must include two years teaching experience in Chemistry at the Higher Education level
  • Research and postgraduate supervision commensurate with Institutional requirements
  • Experience in curriculum development
  • Industry experience will be an added advantage

Senior Lecturer
  • Teach Analytical Chemistry courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Supervise undergraduate final year research projects and postgraduate students
  • Monitor and assess Work Integrated Learning
  • Develop innovative teaching and learning methods and materials for the subjects being taught (e.g., lecture notes, tutorials, online content)
  • Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the Department
  • Participate in curriculum development
  • Participate in research projects and produce DHET-accredited publications
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department
  • Assist with marketing and student recruitment activities
  • Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department
