The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that educates the students across multiple disciplines including Accounting, Finance, Management, Economics, Industrial Psychology (Human Resources Management), Information Systems, Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), Institute for Social Development, Political Studies, School of Government (including Public Administration) and the Academic Literacies Progamme.


Political Studies is an inclusive and engaged department, recognised internationally for our cutting-edge research, as well as innovative teaching and learning. Externally, we work collaboratively with a range of academic and civil society partners, and internally we strive for a collegial and stimulating working environment.


The successful candidate for Senior Lecturer in the Department of Political Studies will be responsible for the following key performance areas:




Facilitate learning, especially through lecturing, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Political Studies, particularly International Relations, Comparative Politics or Research Methodology Conduct research and publish in Political Studies Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision Provide academic leadership and administration Undertake curriculum development and assessment Participate in community engagement and outreach Contribute to a stimulating and collegial departmental culture of engaged scholarship





Minimum Requirements



Doctoral qualification in the field of Political Studies Demonstrated experience in lecturing Political Studies, preferably in the field of International Relations, Comparative Politics or Research Methodology A record of publications (including articles in peer-reviewed academic journals), preferably in the field of International Relations or Comparative Politics A record of successful supervision at Honours and Masters level Demonstrated competence in community engagement

Added advantages:




Supervision experience at Doctoral level Demonstrated experience in academic leadership and administration



Key competencies



Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English Presentation and facilitation skills Adaptability and the ability to operate in a diverse environment Student focused approach Planning and organisational skills, including time management Computer literacy and e-learning skills Technical professional knowledge and skills in the discipline and in the core strategic areas, namely learning and teaching, research and scholarship, community engagement as well as professional leadership
