VACANCY: SENIOR LABORATORY ASSISTANT

A permanent vacancy exists for a Senior Laboratory Assistant - Paterson Grade B3 in our Cape Metropole Blood Bank.





Purpose of the job:


Ensure the efficient management of blood products and consumables by preventing expiry through proper inventory control. Coordinate the collection of biohazardous waste. Process samples, modify blood products, and perform pro forma invoicing as required.


Minimum Requirements:


Matric Certificate. Laboratory Assistant Certificate. A valid HPCSA registration. 1 to 2 years of experience in patient registration within a diagnostic or clinical testing laboratory would be advantageous. Experience with evaluating acceptance and rejection criteria for patient samples and test requests in a diagnostic or clinical testing laboratory would be advantageous. Experience with utilizing Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) in a diagnostic or clinical laboratory setting would be advantageous. The working hours are variable, and shift work is required. Computer literate, i.e., proficiency in the usage of the MS Office package.




A combination of the following skills, knowledge, and attributes is required:


Good interpersonal and communication skills. Have a friendly disposition and show a keen interest in the work. A willingness to work as part of a team is essential. Attention to detail.



As part of the recruitment and selection process, you will be required to complete a psychometric assessment.
