As our organisation continues to grow, we are expanding our Human Resources team.
We are seeking an experienced Senior HR Officer - Operations to act as Second-in-
Command (2IC) to the HR Manager, supporting multiple factory sites in a unionised
manufacturing environment.
This role has a strong Industrial Relations focus, working alongside an existing IR
& Employment Equity Specialist, while also supporting broader operational HR
functions. The successful candidate must be confident, hands-on, and able to operate
independently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Primary Focus:
Industrial Relations & Employee Relations
Act as 2IC to the HR Manager, supporting day-to-day HR operations and
deputising when required
Manage employee relations matters across multiple factory sites
Initiate and chair disciplinary hearings, grievance hearings, incapacity (including ill-health) processes and consultations
Represent the company at the DRC (MIBCO), CCMA and other relevant
forums, including conciliations and arbitrations
Engage and maintain constructive working relationships with two active trade
unions and shop stewards
Ensure compliance with MIBCO Main Agreement, labour legislation and internal
policies
Provide IR guidance and support to line managers and supervisors
Travel between factory sites for IR-related matters (own transport essential)
Secondary HR Responsibilities
Support general HR operations across the employee lifecycle (recruitment, onboarding, performance management, training and HR administration)
Assist with implementation and communication of HR policies and procedures
Coach and advise line management on HR best practices
Contribute to a fair, consistent and positive employee relations climate
Minimum Requirements
Diploma or Degree in Human Resources or related field
Minimum 5 years' HR experience within a manufacturing environment
Proven, hands-on Industrial Relations experience in a unionised setting
Strong working knowledge of MIBCO and South African labour legislation
Demonstrated experience:
o Chairing hearings and consultations
o Managing misconduct, poor performance and incapacity processes
o Representing the employer at DRC and CCMA
o Engaging with trade unions
Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport (essential)
Excellent communication, negotiation and conflict-resolution skills
Ability to work under pressure with professionalism and discretion
Proficient in MS Office and Google Workspace
