Overview?EURReporting to the Editorial Manager/Deputy Editorial Manager and working alongside the Project Manager and Publisher, the Senior Editor (SE) will work directly with Content Development Editors (CDEs) and with authors to create high-quality books on time, as per the publishing plan. They assume the ownership of book quality, working with the author and other internal stakeholders from delivery of the first draft of the chapters through to publication.?EUR?EURThe SE is responsible for ensuring that a book?EUR(TM)s vision, passed from the acquisition team, is executed. They will ensure that books adhere to product guidelines and provide enough depth and detail. The SE needs to ensure that the book meets its specifications in the Outline and that it is of high quality, signing off the preliminary draft.The role is ideal for critical thinkers who can identify and articulate weaknesses in a book's organization and writing and are able to adopt a coaching and mentoring role with authors and CDEs, using firm but diplomatic communication to help them shape their book, creating engaging technical content that allows readers to easily learn about new technologies and develop new skills.?EUR?EURThe role will involve working with up to 4 CDEs. Each CDE will be working on around 10-12 projects at any one time, all at different states within the title pipeline. These projects have overlapping publishing timelines. The SE will coach them and help them to deliver the best possible product, offering expertise on content and execution.?EURWhat you?EUR(TM)ll do?Editorial:

  • Responsible for on-boarding authors and accepting the first three chapters of a book
  • Handover the book to CDEs, providing a content health check for the PM and CDE in order to facilitate accurate planning and time allocation.
  • Continually assess the remaining chapters in the book at a high level, working with the CDE to ensure that the content contains all the required information as per the Outline, as well as identify and remove irrelevant content.
  • Identify opportunities for authors to improve organization, presentation, clarity, and value to the book's intended audience.
  • Substantive editing: working within our product guidelines to ensure that the structure, content, language, style, and presentation of the author?EUR(TM)s work are suitable for its intended purpose and readership; checking for sentence complexity, conciseness, and clear, logical development of ideas.
  • Work with technical reviewers to ensure technical accuracy of the content and code. This will include collating feedback from peer and tech. reviews and ensuring that this is effectively communicated to the author.?EUR
  • Sign off manuscripts, ensuring they adhere to?EURPackt?EUR(TM)s?EURproduct guidelines and meet expected quality standards.
Technology: ?EUR
  • Develop a sound understanding of the technology and the book through research.?EUR
  • Keep up with market changes that could impact the delivery or success of a book, for example, tech. version updates and competing titles.
Relationship Management: ?EUR
  • Provide detailed and constructive feedback to authors using the appropriate tact and tone to suggest the necessary actions that will ensure that the content matches the outline and meets?EURPackt?EUR(TM)s?EURquality standards.
  • Recruit and coach CDEs.
  • Coach authors and CDEs on techniques for how to teach difficult or important concepts in their manuscript.
