As the Senior Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for accurate and comprehensive bookkeeping, maintaining precise financial records, and collaborating closely with the team to ensure smooth and efficient operations. Reporting to the Accountant, you will provide dedicated support in all financial, administrative, and human resource matters, including assisting with internal controls, financial reporting, and safeguarding organisational assets to support informed decision-making in line with SANCCOB's conservation mission. In addition, you will provide support with human resources functions, contributing to the effective management of payroll, staff records, and other administrative processes.

Duties & Responsibilities (but not limited to):
Perform full bookkeeping functions, including monthly reviews to support an unqualified audit.
Process and reconcile bank statements and petty cash.
Oversee, process, and reconcile debtors, ensuring timely payments. This includes coordination with other departments within the organisation.
Import and reconcile sales and cost of sales from the point-of-sale system and prepare monthly reconciliations.
Manage creditors: reconcile supplier accounts, maintain document storage, prepare payments, and maintain and keep the vendor list updated in Xero.
Manage the Procurement and Inventory Officer.
Oversee Approval Max and Dext to ensure internal controls are followed.
Reconcile general ledger accounts.
Assist with preparing VAT, PAYE, and other statutory returns.
Oversee and maintain the fixed asset register, including additions, disposals, and accurate records for audits.
Oversee inventory and stock dispensing controls to mitigate shrinkage and losses.
Oversee and assist with insurance policies, to ensure that assets are adequately insured.
Perform monthly reconciliations and assist with financial reporting.
Maintain accurate financial records compliant with SARS regulations.
Conduct monthly internal control and audit checks to ensure compliance with procedures and policies.
Consult with other departments to resolve financial queries and gather supporting documents.
Assist with Human Resource duties.
Assist with year-end processes and audit preparation.

KEY SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum 15 years proven experience as a bookkeeper, with human resources experience.
Strong proficiency in Xero accounting software is essential.
Strong Excel proficiency is essential.
Experience with Simple Pay payroll is advantageous.
Degree or diploma in Financial Accounting advantageous.
Knowledge of ApprovalMax, Dext, Smart IT, DevMan, Paypal, Payfast advantageous.
Experience with bookkeeping in the nonprofit sector is highly advantageous.
Highly computer literate with solid skills in Microsoft Suite.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Understanding of internal controls and financial compliance.
Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Matric certificate.
A clear criminal and credit record is essential and non-negotiable for this position.
South African citizen or valid work permit.
REMUNERATION:
Remuneration package commensurate with qualifications, experience, and SANCCOB's remuneration model.
