Our client is currently sourcing for two experienced Global Equity Analysts. If you are able to cover the Information Technology and Consumer Spending/Staples sectors, it would be a distinct advantage but not essential.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing global equity team that has won Raging Bull awards.
The fund has approximately $1.5bn in assets, and the broader strategy manages $1.9bn in total AUM.

JOB DESCRIPTION WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  • You will be required to identify, analyse and monitor stocks as part of the investment team;
  • You will be required to formulate the house view of their sector responsibility by making informed recommendations;
  • You will be required to express well-articulated views that help shape decision-making by the equity construction committee;
  • You will be responsible for high quality of research output that demonstrates thorough understanding of their sector responsibility as well as the stocks under coverage;
  • You will be required to contribute to rigorous investment debate and fully understand and deliver investment outcomes in line with the investment philosophy;
  • You will be responsible for identification of investment opportunities (stocks) that have the characteristics the company would invest in and are likely to positively impact investment performance. This would include the following steps (in addition to others you deem appropriate):
  • Identification of new (and already researched) investment opportunities;
  • Analysis of investment stocks, including assessing competitive edge and positive-EVA growth opportunity;
  • Evaluating valuation and modelling earnings generation;
  • Monitoring of investments (existing and potential);
  • Motivation of buy and sell ideas;
  • Risk management;
  • Stock guidelines;
  • Balance sheet assessment;
  • ESG assessment;
  • You will be responsible for all research to be conducted in a timely manner and saved onto the central repository;
  • You will be required to be an ambassador of the investment process and contribute to improve the outcomes in their sector as well as others. This would include:
  • Thought-leadership within your sector;
  • Viewed as 'the' industry-specialist within the investment team and provide valuable insights on where you believe the sector and opportunity set is evolving;
  • Proactively navigate sector opportunities and pitfalls and communicate these dynamics to the team;
  • Value-add probing across sectors to improve the overall investment debate in the team;
  • Participate in team discussions. Develop a strong understanding across other sectors ((in addition to your own) will add value to your investment recommendations for the global equity strategy;
  • Build profile outside MD via internal distribution channels (WI, SBFC, ICS). Develop an understanding of how the investment products / insights can be helpful to the distribution channel.
  • You will be responsible for informed investment recommendations made to the investment team;
  • You will be responsible for Alpha-generation over medium-term time frames;
  • You will be responsible for industry-leading investment research. Investment view and analysis is supportive by proactive thought and focus on the most pertinent issues for the investment case;
  • You will be responsible for mentoring of less experienced analysts and investment assistance / support of other analysts in need;
  • You will be responsible for positive contribution to the team culture;
  • You will be required to ensure consistency of the investment approach. Constructive sharing of information;
  • You will be responsible for robust investment views formulated on covered stocks as well as relevant peers and industry;
  • You will be required to communicate investment ideas effectively;
  • You will be required to reinforce view on the calibre of investment personnel in the research team;
  • You will be required to share investment views with the committee with the intention of shaping how model portfolios are constructed;

  • You will be required to synthesize sell-side insights with the own deep industry knowledge to objectively and proactively identify areas of risk / opportunity;
  • You will be required to build a network of relationships that helps broaden sector expertise;
  • Expert network sources:
  • You will be required to bolster knowledge base and corroborate views on sectors and stocks;
  • You will be required to use this channel effectively to test your own thinking and proactively develop views on where opportunities or pitfalls may exist for our holdings as well as your sector;
  • You will be required to travel locally and international travel occasionally.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • You have a graduate degree at honours level, with a bias to investment management, accounting, commerce, numerical subjects e.g. mathematics, science, analytics;
  • You are a CFA - this is strongly preferred;
  • You have a minimum of 5 years current, relevant analytical experience obtained at a respected financial institution. Global experience is ESSENTIAL!
  • You have knowledge of valuation dynamics involved in determining the value of stocks within a range of industry / market sectors;
  • You have knowledge of interaction of the various factors that drive investment performance;
  • You have knowledge of risk dynamics involved in managing an investment portfolio (market risk, systematic risk);
  • You have knowledge of calculation and quantification of statistical risk metrics;
  • You have the ability to evaluate qualitative information and determine the impact this would have on the risk premium of the investment;
  • You have ability to defend and debate investment recommendations;
  • You have investment knowledge at an advanced level. Act independently and provide guidance and training to others;
  • You are able to display leadership in field of expertise but also shares insights across broader industries;
  • You have, while understanding the complexities of the stock and industry, expertise in speaking simply about complex issues to other investment professionals or the distribution channel;
  • You are computer literate e.g. Microsoft Office;
  • You have investment analytical skills;
  • You have Bloomberg / FactSet experience - this is beneficial;
  • You have financial modelling expertise.
