Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects - exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

As a Section Manager Project Management SIB you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Effective safety leadership and behaviour modelling for the project team, contractors and construction workforce
  • The development of an integrated plan (for the scope of work) incorporating all stakeholders and technical functions and in line with Anglo American standards
  • Set-up of required controls to ensure delivery against these standards and the objectives as defined in the project charter
  • Effective leadership of cross-functional teams in line with the Anglo American values
  • Transparent reporting of progress to stakeholders
  • Proactively identifies changes in work scope and ensure appropriate planning measures are taken with internal and external clients to reassess and amend the scope of work requirement, budget, and timeline
  • Involves functional expertise and specialist staff in design reviews and key decisions
  • Assists in compiling a complete and accurate estimate of a project
  • Assists in managing the financial aspects of the project: budgeting, estimate to actual variance, capital project management, etc
  • Provides inputs when analyzing the actual performance against the plan and make adjustments consistent with plan objectives
  • Organizes the work into manageable activity clusters (phases)
  • Determines an effective approach to completing the work
  • Assists in preparing the project plan and obtain management approval.
  • Determines project goals and priorities with management program manager and/or project sponsors
  • Assists in determining priorities among project activities
  • Assists in the effectively coordinating the activities of the team to meet project milestone
This role is in the Stay In Business Projects at a Band 6 level reporting to Manager SIB

Qualifications
  • Technical 3 year degree (NQF level 7)
  • Qualification in Project Management
  • Driver's Licence: Code B (Light Vehicle)
  • Medically Fit
Experience
  • At least 8-10 years years' Mining / Heavy industry construction management experience
  • Experience in managing projects that require multi-disciplinary engineering expertise.
  • Significant exposure to SHE management of the construction environment under MHSA.
  • Experience in Environment authorization related projects
  • Commercial exposure of contract negotiations and contract conditions
