Job Description


Experience
The successful incumbent must possess at least five (5) years experience operating as a production engineer with a focus on gold as commodity.
Formal qualifications

  • A B. Engineering (B.Eng or BSc Eng) or equivalent NQF level 8 qualification
  • Holder of Government Certificate of Competency
  • Valid driving license code 08
  • A valid medical certificate certifying the incumbents fitness status to work on surface and or underground
Responsibilities
  • The Production Engineer will be responsible for the conditions, duties and responsibilities imposed on Engineers by the Mine Health and Safety Act, 1996 (Act no. 29 of 1996) in respect of the Mine, operations, underground workings and surface areas as indicated on the mine responsibility plans. In addition, the incumbent will also appointed to perform the duties in terms of Regulation 2.13.4.1.
  • Support to and manage mining operations
  • Creating estimates for mining projects
  • Assist with mining equipment selection
  • Implement and coordinate mine safety programs, including the design and maintenance of protective and rescue equipment and or processes
  • Lay out, direct and supervise mine construction operations
  • Manage the mining operation
  • Supervise mining projects and staff to ensure that mining takes place on schedule and within budget parameters
  • Maintain all equipment within legal parameters
  • The incumbent will be required to comply with all conditions and requirements of the Mines Environmental Policy and Environmental Management Programmes, Procedures, Instructions and Protocols which may be applicable to the area of responsibility.
  • To prevent pollution, to reduce waste at source and to recycle as far as reasonably practicable all redundant materials and equipment for re-use or for re-sale.
  • Plan and ensure that the appropriate engineering practices and systems are implemented to achieve the optimum utilisation of labour, material, budget and equipment
  • To apply and enforce the provisions of the MHSA relating to the role
  • Develop and define the required performance policies and standards (including codes of practice)
  • Ensure that subordinate managers and supervisors are empowered to respond to any operational need that arises
  • Ensure that the appropriate corrective actions are taken in order to remedy any identified or possible deficiencies
  • Ensure mine standards and procedures are implemented and complied with
