Department: Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
Reports to: IPM Manager / Farm Manager
Job Purpose:
To monitor and report on pest and disease presence in soft fruit crops (strawberries and blueberries), supporting the IPM team in implementing timely and effective control strategies to ensure optimal crop health and yield.
Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct regular scouting of strawberry and blueberry fields to identify pests, diseases, and beneficial insects.
• Record and report findings accurately using digital or manual scouting sheets.
• Assist in mapping pest pressure and trends across blocks or tunnels.
• Communicate observations promptly to the IPM Manager for decision-making.
• Support the implementation of biological control measures and monitor their effectiveness.
• Maintain scouting equipment and ensure hygiene protocols are followed to prevent cross-contamination.
• Collaborate with farm workers and supervisors to ensure awareness of pest issues.
• Participate in training sessions related to pest identification and IPM practices.

Requirements:

• Matric certificate or relevant agricultural qualification.
• Previous experience in scouting or crop monitoring (soft fruit experience preferred).
• Good knowledge of common pests and diseases affecting strawberries and blueberries.
• Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Basic computer literacy for data entry and reporting.
• Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
