Job Description

Job Purpose




Department of Agriculture, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a competent and suitably qualified individual to render an analytical Laboratory service in the plant laboratory.

Minimum Requirements




An appropriate 3 year National Diploma (equivalent or higher qualification); Compulsory registration with SACNASP (South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions) as a Certificated Natural Scientist in the appropriate scientific field; Three years post qualification technical (scientific) experience; A valid driving licence.

Key Performance Areas




Analyze samples (plant material) and respond to clients; Development of new analytical procedures; Supervise, mentor and guide Laboratory Assistants; Keep up to date with regard to the applicable prescripts, policies, procedures, technologies and new development to be able to render an efficient and effective service; Agricultural laboratory plant analyses; Experience with LIMS and ICP equipment.

Competencies




Knowledge of the following: Plant analyses; Relevant equiptment; Major crops in the Western Cape; Written and verbal communication skills; Computer literacy in MS Office package and LIMS (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Technical skills; Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Remuneration




Grade A: R 391 671 - R 418 332; Grade B: R442 389 - R 473 778; Grade C: R 498 816 - R 586 665 per annum (Salary will be determined based on post registration experience as per OSD prescribed).



Note on remuneration: to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD), the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees' service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.

These candidates will be required to complete a practical assessment and attend the interview on a date and time as determined by the department and may also be required to undergo competency assessments/proficiency test. The selection process will be guided by the EE targets of the employing department.
