The purpose of this job is to ensure that pattern inspections are conducted by the Quality Department and not within production processes. The role will strengthen alignment between input and output inspections while modernizing the pattern inspection process to meet current standards and efficiency targets.
Roles and Responsibilities:
? Carry out dimensional and visual inspections of patterns to ensure accuracy and usability. ? Use traditional measuring equipment (calipers, rulers, micrometers, gauges) for routine checks.
? Assist in operating 3D scanning equipment to verify pattern dimensions against CAD models.
? Record inspection results clearly and submit reports to the Chief Inspector. ? Check that the latest approved drawings are used during inspection.
? Identify visible damage, wear, or defects on patterns before release to production.
? Tag, label, and store inspected patterns according to company production. ? Assist in trial inspections and first-off approvals of new or repaired patterns.
? Conduct pattern inspections at supplier facilities as required, reporting any issues back to the Chief Inspector.
? Support the development of supplier inspection levels by providing feedback on recurring issues and compliance gaps.
? Support corrective action processes by reporting non-conformances promptly.
? Conduct inspection for designated samples from start to finished product (as well as gauges where needed)
? Carry out ad hoc tasks as assigned by Chief Inspector or Quality Manager (such as 3D scanning of trials)
Qualifications and Experience:
? 2-5 years' experience in quality inspection or related foundry work (pattern knowledge beneficial)
? Basic knowledge of pattern-making processes and casting requirements
? Competent in reading technical drawings and understanding requirements
? Exposure to 3D scanning and metrology software is an advantage (training provided if required)
? Ability to use and care for measuring equipment correctly
? Matric qualification (Mathematics/Technical Drawing recommended)
? Basic computer literacy for recording inspection data
? Willingness to travel for supplier inspections when required
