Sales Representative

Job Purpose:
To perform comprehensive sales duties combining both internal sales office operations and external customer relationship management in the special steel industry. This role serves as a bridge between office-based sales support and field-based business development, ensuring seamless customer service across all touchpoints. The position involves responding to incoming sales enquiries, managing the switchboard alternately with other sales staff, and actively pursuing new business opportunities through direct customer visits and relationship building.

Key Responsibilities:
Internal Sales (50%)
Primary contact for incoming calls and sales enquiries
Ensure that expected customer service levels are consistently met
Process and manage steel sales and stock management
Link card/EFT sales to orders and compile daily cash sales reports
Order stock based on demand analysis and market feedback
Quote with guidance from technical specialists
Support walk-in customers and provide technical product guidance
External Sales (50%)
Identify and develop new customer accounts through direct visits
Maintain and grow existing customer relationships
Reach out to potential leads through various channels (email, phone, social media)
Submit weekly call reports with customer visit feedback and market intelligence
Recommend material grades and sizes to stock based on market feedback
Ensure a positive customer experience throughout the entire sales process
Perform cold calling and business development activities
General Responsibilities:
Maintain acceptable GP margin and turnover
Market new product lines to new sectors by phone, mail, and in person
Maintain acceptable quote-to-order conversion rates
Adhere to administrative, SHEQ, and Environmental requirements
Perform buy-outs and book in new stock as required
Build a history of new product lines and make projections for stock requirements
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
Minimum 3-5 years sales experience (combination of internal and external)
At least 2 years external sales or business development with a proven track record
Any previous experience with ERP systems will be advantageous
Knowledge of the engineering/manufacturing industry preferred
Technical Skills:
Ability to make basic weight and volume calculations
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Arithmetic skills for preparing quotes and monitoring targets
Experience in ERP or customer relationship management software preferred
Communication & Language:
Able to speak both Afrikaans & English fluently
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels (shop floor to management)
Excellent telephone etiquette and negotiation skills
Comfortable with cold calling
Other Requirements:
Valid drivers license
Able to negotiate both telephonically and face-to-face
Qualifications Required:
Matric certificate
Technical tertiary qualification (advantageous)
Formal training in sales or marketing (advantageous)
Engineering or technical background (advantageous)

Om omvattende verkoopspligte uit te voer wat beide interne verkoopsbedrywighede en eksterne klientverhoudingsbestuur in die spesiale staalbedryf kombineer. Hierdie rol dien as 'n brug tussen kantoor-gebaseerde verkoopsondersteuning en veld-gebaseerde besigheidsontwikkeling, wat 'n gladde klientediens oor alle kontakpunte verseker. Die pos behels die hantering van inkomende verkoopsnavrae, die afwisselende bestuur van die telefoonbord saam met ander verkoopspersoneel, en die aktiewe soeke na nuwe besigheidsgeleenthede deur direkte klientbesoeke en die bou van verhoudings.

Proses en bestuur van staalverkope en voorraadbestuur
Koppel kaart/EFT verkope aan bestellings en stel daaglikse kontantverkoopverslae op
Bestel voorraad op grond van vraaganalise en markterugvoer
Stel kwotasies op met die leiding van tegniese spesialiste
Ondersteun stapklante en verskaf tegniese produkleidings
Eksterne Verkope (50%)
Identifiseer en ontwikkel nuwe klientrekeninge deur direkte besoeke
Onderhou en bevorder bestaande klientverhoudings
Benader potensiele leidrade deur verskeie kanale (e-pos, telefoon, sosiale media)
Dien weeklikse oproepposverslae in met klientbesoekterugvoer en markintelligensie
Beveel materiaalgrade en groottes aan om op voorraad te wees, gebaseer op markterugvoer
Verseker 'n positiewe klientervaring deur die hele verkoopsproses
Voer koue oproepe en besigheidsontwikkelingsaktiwiteite uit

Minimum Vereistes:
Ervaring:

Enige vorige ervaring met ERP-stelsels sal 'n voordeel wees

In staat wees om basiese gewig- en volumenommers te bereken
