Job Description


Key Performance Areas:

  • Develop systems to ensure all employees comply with all relevant legal and safety requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain an effective (safety, risk, environmental management) program and ensure compliance to satisfy the requirements of local (bylaws and national) legislation e.g., the OHS, COID, and Environmental Conservation Acts (NEMA).
  • Identify safety (and specific) training needs, organize and coordinate safety training courses and prepare training material where appropriate.
  • Evaluate incident forms, surveys, and audits to establish root causes and together with Supervisors and Managers concerned, formulate a plan of action to correct non-compliant behavior or conditions (and ensure close out of findings and follow-up on corrections).
  • Liaise with on-site contractors to ensure their compliance with Company safety regulations and adherence to safety standards, including basic safety induction training.
  • Provide monthly, weekly & daily quality reports (toolbox talk, logged incidents or near misses, man-hour report, site plans, and sustainability report).
  • Adherence to maintenance procedures & processes
  • Provide coaching, support & feedback to technical team.
  • Identify, analyze, and evaluate potential hazards as well as actual safety and environmental hazards and risks.
  • Assist in managing compliance by employees, clients, and stakeholders with safety and health regulations and related internal policies and procedures.
  • Implement, enhance, and maintain occupational safety, health, hygiene, and environmental programs within the parameters of legal requirements, ISO, and best practices.
  • Understand and adhere to the client's permit-to-work system.
  • Possess knowledge of HEMP.
  • Understand incident investigation processes and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 12 (matric)
  • Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent qualification
  • Professional registration/Trade Registration with a relevant recognized professional body e.g., SAIOSH, SACPCMP
  • Code B Drivers License
  • Minimum of 2 years in a mining environment
