Job Summary

Join a Leading Provider of Water Treatment Solutions as a Safety Officer Randfontein (Gauteng) based. You will play a crucial role in the organization by advising and facilitating compliance with governing legislations such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993 and its Regulations), the Mine Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996 and its regulations), South African supplementary standards (SANS/SABS), as well as other applicable legislation, codes of practice, and international standards (ISO Standards). In this role, you will have the opportunity to build and maintain strong relationships throughout the company and client sites. Collaborating closely with management, supervisors, and employees, you will promote a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • BTech Occupational Health and Safety Management or similar
  • SAMTRAC, COMSOC, relevant qualification in safety management
  • Certified in ISO 9001 / 45001/ 14001 implementation and internal auditing.
  • Certified in Incident/Accident Investigation (ICAM/5-WHY/RCAT)
  • Certified in HIRA
  • Fall Protection Planner (advantageous)
  • Training facilitation experience/qualification
  • Professional registration as a CHSO with SACPCMP an added advantage
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as Safety in one or more of the following industries (Project Environment, Mining, Manufacturing, Construction)
  • 1-2 Years' proven track record in ISO Internal Auditing
  • Knowledge of MHSA AND OHSA
  • Driver's license with own transport (essential)
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Vaccination certificate (covid)
Duties:
  • Support and develop Occupational Health and Safety policies and programs.
  • Conduct risk assessments and enforce implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with SHEQ requirements and manage changes effectively.
  • Provide guidance on legal requirements and maintain legal appointments.
  • Advise on safety-related aspects and occupational health measures.
  • Organize training for employees and line management.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Perform safety file compliance audits and ensure timely actions.
  • Maintain up-to-date equipment registers.
  • Escalate safety issues to senior management if necessary.
  • Lead departmental safety meetings and document meeting minutes.
  • Participate in internal audits to meet ISO standards.
  • Oversee safe handling of chemicals and proper waste disposal.
  • Stop unsafe acts or processes and provide on-the-job training.
  • Record and investigate incidents and non-conformities.
  • Act in emergencies and improve emergency plans and preparedness.
  • Attend Health and Safety Committee and client safety meetings.
  • Stay updated on new developments and legislative changes.
  • Prepare reports for management and the SHEQ Manager
  • Submit regular safety reports and utilize the mySHEQ system effectively.
  • Monitor site teams' SHEQ performance and programs.
