Job Purpose
The HOD must manage the department effectively and efficiently in line with the CPUT policies and procedures specifically but not limited to (i) academic project management; (ii) research management; (iii) HR and staff management; (iv) financial management; and (v) student management.


Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Doctorate in Chemistry or equivalent qualification A minimum of 5 years relevant experience, 3 of which must be as Senior Lecturer or above The 5 years mentioned above must include 2 years management experience related to the functions of a HoD (academic management, curriculum development, quality assurance and accreditation processes, financial and HR management of a Department) Research and supervision experience commensurate with the level of Senior Lecturer or above Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
Academic instruction Research and post graduate supervision Academic management and administration Budget and financial management Human resources management Leadership in research activities in the department Community engagement and industry alliance & partnerships Professional/personal development and implementation Safety management Project management Policy development and implementation Create a vision and provide leadership to the Department Foster excellence and harmonious delivery of university teaching, research, service mandates and expectations Any other responsibilities assigned by the Dean Competencies
