Job Description

Performs tasks/activities associated with the transportation of material/equipment and
personnel to/from work sites and operation of heavy mechanical plant and/or specialised
vehicles.
Key Responsibility Areas
Performs specific tasks/activities at the Asphalt Plant and worksite prior to and on
completion of allocated assignments. Inspecting safety devices, controls, lubricant levels etc. on vehicles and reports defects
to the Senior Assistant.
Transporting personnel, material and equipment to/from specific locations.
Completes internal transactional documentation (e.g. tally sheets, log sheet, progress
reports and related forms (vehicle checklist).
Performs specific tasks associated with the operation of heavy specialised mechanical
plant (e.g. Grader, Front End Loader, Crane Truck, Roller, Paver, Milling Machine) and
vehicles (Tip Trucks, Water Trucks etc.)
Controlling the utilisation of materials (sand, stone, crusher run, etc.) and
discharging/offloading required quantities of materials for repair or construction work.
Driving and manoeuvring heavy mechanical plant and engaging controls to operate
mechanisms to enable digging, loading, grading, levelling, rolling and paving etc

Essential Requirements
Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
Valid certification of competency in the operation of truck mounted cranes and
operation of Heavy Plant.
Valid motor vehicle driving license (Code EC).
Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
2 Years relevant experience.
Preferred Requirements
3 Years relevant experience.
