Job SummaryVACANCY: HEAD OF RISK MANAGEMENT / CHIEF RISK OFFICER (CRO)Location: Head OfficeHire Resolve's Client is seeking to hire a Risk of Management to join their team in Durban, Kingsmead.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESRisk Management Strategy & Framework

  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive risk management framework tailored to Islamic banking operations.
  • Establish Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), risk tolerance levels, and reporting standards in consultation with management and Board.
  • Ensure regular risk assessments, recording of risk events, and continuous updates of the risk register.
  • Oversee credit, operational, liquidity, and capital risk functions while monitoring emerging risk areas such as climate risk and cyber resilience.
  • Drive the integration of AI and automation into risk analysis and reporting.
  • Maintain and update policies including the Enterprise Risk Management Framework, ICAAP, Recovery Plan, and RDARR Framework.
Annual Risk Functional Plan
  • Develop and implement an annual departmental plan aligned with organisational objectives.
  • Ensure resource allocation, KPI setting, and on-time delivery of risk projects and reports.
  • Lead risk reviews, workshops, and follow-ups on mitigation strategies.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Oversee the bank's compliance with regulatory obligations, including RDARR, ICAAP, Recovery Planning, and other prudential standards.
  • Support preparation for regulatory inspections and presentations.
  • Implement recommendations from regulatory bodies and shareholder groups on areas such as liquidity and credit risk.
Strategic Risk Advisory
  • Provide strategic risk input to executive management and the Board on enterprise-wide matters.
  • Define and maintain the organisation's risk appetite and tolerance.
  • Participate in key decision-making forums to ensure risk considerations are embedded in strategy.
Internal Controls, Fraud, and Insurance
  • Monitor the adequacy and effectiveness of internal control systems.
  • Implement fraud prevention strategies, leveraging external partners and technology.
  • Manage the organisation's insurance portfolio to ensure adequate risk coverage.
Leadership and Staff Development
  • Lead and mentor the Risk Management team, fostering a high-performance and compliance-focused culture.
  • Drive training initiatives to strengthen risk awareness across departments.
  • Implement performance management, succession planning, and staff recognition strategies.
Policy Management and Administration
  • Develop, update, and align risk policies and procedures with best practices and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure effective departmental budgeting, resource utilisation, and cost control.
  • Provide risk reports to Executive Management and the Board Risk Committee, ensuring informed decision-making.
Internal & External Communication
  • Communicate key risk insights to the Chairman of the Board Risk Committee and executive leadership.
  • Coordinate regular risk forums and reporting cycles to ensure engagement at all levels.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCEMinimum Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant certifications in risk, governance, or compliance (advantageous).
Preferred Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Banking and/or Audit, with at least 3 years in a senior management role focused on enterprise risk.
  • Proven track record managing risk in a regulatory and compliance-driven environment.
  • Exposure to Islamic banking principles will be highly advantageous.
