Job Description

Applications are invited for the RF Access Specialist position to be based in Plattekloof.



About the role:



The RF Specialist in the NOC department, defines, maintains, and supports RF network standards, provide expert-level troubleshooting for complex RF-related issues, and assist in the planning and delivery of large-scale RF projects. Collaborate closely with network engineers and field teams to ensure RF infrastructure reliability, optimal performance, and proactive management of potential issues.

Key Responsibility Areas will include:



RF Network Standards and Documentation




Develop, document, and enforce RF configuration standards for PtMP and PtP wireless equipment. Maintain a centralized library of approved RF configuration templates and best practices. Perform regular audits to ensure compliance with defined standards.

Expert Support and Troubleshooting




Act as the primary escalation point for complex RF incidents and performance issues. Conduct in-depth root-cause analysis on critical RF issues, providing clear findings and actionable recommendations.

RF Network Monitoring and Analytics




Regularly conduct analytics for PtMP and PtP links to proactively identify and mitigate RF performance issues. Perform spectrum analysis to manage frequency usage, detect interference, and optimize channel planning. Proactively monitor RF performance indicators (signal-to-noise ratio, link uptime, throughput).

Planning and Design Support




Assist in planning and designing large-scale RF deployments, upgrades, and network expansions. Create accurate link budgets, frequency plans, and predictive coverage maps. Provide technical input on hardware selection and vendor assessments.

Collaboration and Knowledge Transfer




Provide detailed RF training sessions to engineers and technical staff, covering equipment, standards, and troubleshooting methodologies. Ensure effective communication and coordination across the NOC, Access Network teams, and field operations.

Key Outputs




Update and support RF standards documentation and configuration templates. Detailed RF troubleshooting and root-cause analysis reports. Scheduled and proactive RF performance analytics and frequency analysis reports. Comprehensive planning documentation, including link budgets and predictive analyses. Training materials and knowledge base entries covering RF equipment, configurations, and troubleshooting guidelines.

Experience, Competencies and Skill Requirements:



Work Experience:




Minimum of 3 years' experience in an RF-focused role within telecommunications. Proven experience in RF network planning, troubleshooting, and analytics.

Technical Competencies:




Advanced understanding of RF fundamentals, including propagation, modulation, interference management, and antenna theory. Strong expertise in configuring, deploying, and troubleshooting major RF equipment vendors. Proficient in RF planning and analysis tools (e.g., Cambium LINKPlanner, Ubiquiti AirLink, spectrum analyzers). Skilled in network protocols and monitoring practices (TCP/IP, SNMP, ICMP, Zabbix, Grafana).

Professional Skills:




Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong numerical and data management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to clearly convey complex RF concepts. Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.

Qualification Requirements



Required:




Grade 12 Certificate

Advantageous:




Relevant tertiary qualification (Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, or similar) Vendor-specific RF certifications (Cambium, Ubiquiti, MikroTik) Additional network certifications (e.g., MTCNA, CCNA Wireless)
