Job Description

Our client in Paarl, is seeking a hands-on, experienced Retail Manager to oversee the daily operations of their hardware store. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in retail management, with knowledge of hardware products and tools, strong leadership skills, and a customer-focused approach. Minimum of 3 - 5 years' experience is required.

Primary responsibilities including but not limited to:

Store Operations:

Oversee day-to-day store operations ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to policies

Monitor stock levels, order new stock, and ensure optimal product availability

Ensure proper merchandising, stock rotation, and cleanliness of the store

Implement loss prevention measures and ensure security protocols are followed

Team Management:

Lead, motivate, and manage a team of sales assistants and support staff

Conduct staff training, performance evaluations, and enforce disciplinary procedures where necessary

Prepare staff rosters and ensure sufficient floor coverage at all times

Customer Service:

Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction through excellent service and product knowledge

Resolve customer complaints and queries effectively and promptly

Promote upselling and product recommendations

Sales and Financial Performance:

Drive sales targets and ensure achievement of monthly and annual goals

Analyze sales data and implement strategies to improve profitability

Manage cash-ups, banking, and daily/weekly financial reporting

Minimum Requirements - Qualifications:

Matric

Diploma or Certificate in Retail Management or Business - adv

Minimum 3-5 years' experience in retail management, preferably in the hardware/building materials sector

Strong product knowledge of hardware tools, equipment, plumbing, electrical, and building materials

Proven experience in team leadership, stock control, and customer service

Computer literate MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) & POS System

Skills & Competencies:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills (Afrikaans & English)

Excellent leadership and team management abilities

Good numeracy and financial acumen

High attention to detail and problem-solving skills

Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced retail environment

Ability to communicate effectively on all levels
