Were on the lookout for an experienced Research Officer II Seed Technology to manage Sappis genetic resources for long-term sustainability in a changing environment. Conduct relevant trials, experiments, analysis, and report on results, thus allowing for adjustments to work plans and strategy. Produce and supply improved tree seed to own and external customers with best genetic gain. As a Research Officer II , you will be responsible for:Ensuring accurate records are kept of all trees within trials, experiments, and orchards (STEPZ) across the landholdings in the TreePlasm database.Digitise all orchards ensuring genotypes (trees) are captured and have a GPS location and associated pedigree.Conducting relevant trials, experiments, analysis, and report on results, thus allowing for adjustments to work plans and strategy.Facilitate the collection of various valuable biological products such pollen, vegetative material, DNA, and seed.Monitor seed crops across all genera within trials and orchards and develop annual harvesting plans in line with the seed supply strategy.Monitor the impacts annual and seasonal weather patterns on seed productionParticipate and present results and progress at quarterly, bimanual meetings and MDTsEnsure all own and contractor operators are compliant in terms of all activities and in particular tree climbing, driving cherry pickers and use of equipment and application of chemicals. BSc Degree Forestry/Agriculture/HorticultureAn Honours Degree will be an advantageMinimum of 2 years experience in forestry research and or nurseriesForestry experience will be advantageous Whats in it for you?
