To coordinate evaluation of recruited participants in the different studies and assist other nurses in their daily work
Location:
Edendale Lay Ecumencial Center Clinic, Edendale, Pietermaritzburg
Key performance areas:
To do study related duties as specified by the protocol
Conduct home visit if need be
Assess and monitor patients
Administer medications and injections
Provide wound care
Support diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
Maintain accurate patient records (digital and hardcopies)
Competent in infection control, vital signs monitoring and emergency response
Ability and experience in using electronic databases (e.g. MACRO/RedCap)
Assess and recognize respiratory illnesses in participants
Compile study progress reports on number of participants enrolled and activities performed
Establish a working relationship with clinic nurses/staff
Follow-up participants who fail to attend their study visits
Collect specimens from participants
Ensure that all participants, parents/caregivers have signed informed consent forms
Communicate routinely as needed to the study coordinator and Principal investigator regarding clinical management of subjects
Attend and resolve queries that are generated by data management staff
Do proper filing of results and any other study related documents in the relevant assigned place
Required minimum education and training:
Grade 12
Diploma in Nursing or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
Qualified as an Professional Nurse
Fluent in English and Isi-Zulu
HIV Management and Counselling course will be advantageous
Human Subjection Protection Certificate will be advantageous
TRREE (Training and Resources in Research Ethics Evaluation) will be advantageous
Good Clinical Practice Certificate (GCP) will be an advantageous
Electronic data systems (e.g RedCap) and Excel
Professional body registration:
Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as an Professional Nurse
Required minimum work experience:
1 - 2 years' Experience in a Research environment especially in a clinical or outpatient setting
Ability to draw and process blood samples
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
Ability to lead and work independently as well as be part of a multidisciplinary team
A friendly, informal attitude with excellent people skills
Ability to speak in local languages
Ability to work well under pressure
Ability to adapt to changing environment within the project needs
