Job Description

The Research Data Analyst will support the M&E function in enhancing evidence-based decision making and organisational learning by leading and contributing to research and analytical activities, ensuring the collection, management, and analysis of high-quality data to inform programme improvement, strategic planning, and organisational accountability. The role will further support the generation and dissemination of research findings and insights to strengthen programme effectiveness and institutional knowledge.

Key Performance Areas



Data Analysis and Visualisation



Interpret data and assist in analysing results using statistical techniques and provide support in reporting. Analyse quantitative and qualitative data to generate insights for reporting, learning, and programme improvement. Support the design and maintenance of M&E databases and dashboards. Identify and interpret trends or patterns in data sets. Develop automated reporting and visualisation processes to improve efficiency and accessibility of insights.

Research Support



Assist in the design of research studies and evaluation framework. Conduct literature reviews, desktop research, and environmental scans to inform programme design and data interpretation. Support development of research protocols, sampling strategies, and data collection instruments. Coordinate and document fieldwork and data collection activities, ensuring adherence to ethical standards and data quality. Contribute to the synthesis and communication of research findings for learning and decision-making.

Data Management



Collect, clean, validate, and manage programme and operational data from multiple sources. Assist in developing and maintaining databases to ensure accurate, reliable, and accessible information for monitoring and evaluation purposes. Support compliance with data protection, privacy, and ethical standards. Maintain proper documentation of data sources, metadata, and methodologies.

Reporting



Prepare supporting analytical reports, presentations, and briefs summarising research findings and data insights. Support the translation of data into clear, actionable recommendations for programme improvement and strategic initiatives. Contribute data and evidence inputs to donor reports, funding proposals, and impact assessments. Present findings to internal teams and stakeholders in an understandable and engaging manner.

Collaboration and Support



Work closely with programme teams, M&E staff, and management to align data activities with organisational objectives and support data quality. Provide basic technical support and training to staff on data collection tools, dashboards, data literacy, and reporting systems. Participate in stakeholder meetings and knowledge-sharing forums to promote data-driven decision-making and stay abreast of emerging trends, tools, and best practices in research and analytics.

Education, Skills, and Experience



BSc Computer Science, Statistics or Mathematics, Data Science or related field. 1-2 years' experience in data analysis, preferably in an M&E, research, or non-profit environment. Proven experience in statistical, data visualisation and reporting tools such as Power BI or Excel dashboards. Basic understanding of M&E principles, frameworks, and indicators. Research skills and understanding of how to apply qualitative and quantitative methods High level of mathematical ability Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g. Excel, or Python) Understanding of M&E Frameworks (theory of change, logical frameworks, indicator development) Knowledge of data quality assurance processes and evaluation methodologies is an advantage. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to create charts, dashboards, and visual reports using Power BI and Excel Ability to extract insights from datasets using statistical methods Attention to detail Ability to work under pressure Integrity and honesty
