REF NO.: GERI/01/2022The Department of Geriatrics is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to fill the
position of Research Assistant for the Fractures in Sub-Saharan Africa: Epidemiology,
economic impact, and ethnography study (FRACTURES E3). The study, a collaboration
between the Wellcome Trust Grant and the University of KwaZulu-Natal will conduct an
online/telephonic survey of 305 private and public health care facilities across South Africa
to assess fracture service availability and the readiness of health facilities to provide basic
healthcare interventions. The incumbent will be based at the Medical School Campus and
may be required to travel to distant sites within KwaZulu-Natal.The successful candidate will be responsible for making telephonic interviews and assisting
facilities to complete the online questionnaire.Furthermore, the successful candidate will:

  • Work effectively with others as a member of a team to ensure that targets are met
  • Assist team members on other work packages where necessary
  • Observe and follow all safety protocols including Covid-19 related protocols
Minimum Requirements:
  • Grade 12/Matric certificate
  • 1-year prior experience conducting telephonic interviews for health research studies
and proof thereof
  • Understanding of health care procedures involved in fracture care
  • Prior training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
Essential Requirements
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Fluent in English and IsiZulu
  • Good time management skills
