BACKGROUND





The Aurum Institute is a proudly African, health impact organization dedicated to researching, supporting, and implementing innovative, integrated approaches to global health. As part of efforts to tackle high rates of tuberculosis (TB) in South Africa, we are conducting a study to evaluate the effectiveness of a sputum collection tool in community settings. The study will be implemented in two metros: Sarah Baartman and Nelson Mandela Bay. We are seeking two Research Assistants in each location. Each site-based team will work closely with the project manager and digital chest X-ray (dCXR) screening teams to identify eligible participants, collect data, and conduct study procedures. Activities will involve travel across the metro areas to TB screening sites.


JOB SPECIFICATION




Participant recruitment and enrolment




Recruit, screen, and enrol participants in the study Provide participants with study information and administer informed consent Conduct study procedures as per protocol

Research related activities




Accurately document all study activities and complete case report forms (CRFs) and source documents Collect and manage biological specimens (e.g., sputum) Administer data collection instruments using REDCap and assist with resolving data queries Manage study supplies and ensure proper stock-keeping Reimburse participants and maintain reimbursement logs Uphold participant confidentiality and securely store all study documentation Contribute to team planning meetings and report progress to the Study Manager, meeting enrolment and follow-up targets

General administration




Prepare participant files and study documents Safely transport and store study documents and specimens Attend study meetings to contribute to reporting Perform other duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements




At least 3 years of research experience, including data collection Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with REDCap or similar electronic data systems Understanding of research methods and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills Fluency in English Ability to work independently, under pressure, and collaboratively within a team Willingness to travel

Advantageous




Relevant certificate, diploma or bachelor's degree Current GCP certification Fluency in a relevant language (e.g. isiXhosa or Afrikaans) Valid driver's license with recent driving experience
