Who are we?

Sanlam Group Technology is responsible for the provision of a digitally enabled technology service as a group COE, drive business and transformation and provide group-wide digital and data architecture. We operate the various technology platforms and shared services, ensure Cyber and Information Security resilience, and act as technology governance and risk orchestrator for technology across Sanlam.

What will you do?

The Release Train Engineer manages and optimizes the flow of value through the ART. The RTE facilitates, the ART events processes and assists teams in delivering value. The RTE communicates with a wide range of stakeholders, escalates impediments, helps manage risk and drives relentless improvement.

What will make you successful in this role?

  • Aligning the portfolio with the organization's overall business strategy and value proposition: works closely with senior leaders to ensure that all projects and initiatives within the portfolio are aligned with the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Identifying, assessing, and managing risks associated with the portfolio: in order to ensure that the portfolio delivers value to customers and stakeholders.
  • Prioritizing projects and initiatives: ensuring that the most important and valuable work is being focused on.
  • Measuring and reporting on the performance of the portfolio: in order to ensure that the portfolio delivers value to customers and stakeholders.
  • Continuously improving the portfolio management process: is responsible for fostering a culture of collaboration, alignment, and continuous improvement, and for implementing policies and procedures that support effective decision-making, risk management, performance measurement, and continuous improvement.
  • Establishing governance policies and procedures: that align with the organization's overall value proposition and are focused on delivering value to customers and stakeholders.
  • Providing centralized visibility: is responsible for providing stakeholders with transparent, accurate and up-to-date information about the portfolio, including progress, performance, risks, and opportunities.
  • Facilitating communication and collaboration: among stakeholders and teams to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and engaged in the portfolio management process.
Qualifications

Relevant IT Qualification (IT Diploma or Degree)
SAFe Release Train Engineer certification

Knowledge:

Thorough knowledge of agile practices, rituals and ceremonies
Thorough knowledge of Jira and Confluence
Thorough understanding of how to utilize dashboards, KPI/metrics & burn down charts
Good understanding of:
Engineering practices
How agile works at scale
Behavior Driven Development methodology practiced in Sanlam
CI/CD pipeline and the master run executions
The release process
The unique opportunities and challenges associated with facilitating and continuously aligning a large development program

Experience:

Management of Releases
  • At least 5 years of working experience in an Agile environment coordinating a sizeable release train
Hands-on experience in the rolling out and scaling agility within an insurance context
Minimum of 5 - 10 years experience within the Life Assurance Industry (or in broader Financial Services industry)
