Suitably qualified counsellors with a passion for working with youth are invited to apply for the High School Counsellor position. The incumbent will provide holistic, student-centered counselling that promotes academic success, emotional resilience, and overall wellbeing. The role involves supporting learners from diverse backgrounds through individual and group interventions, collaborating with educators, and leading wellbeing initiatives across the high school.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Dean of Student Development , the incumbent will be responsible for:
Providing individual and group counselling to support learners' academic, emotional, and social development.
Collaborating with teachers and the academic team on behavioural and wellbeing interventions.
Addressing classroom behaviour challenges and referring complex cases to specialists.
Coordinating and leading wellbeing and mental health programmes, including awareness campaigns.
Conducting assessments, compile reports, and developing counselling plans.
Offering socio-emotional and conflict resolution support to students.
Facilitating staff training on trauma-informed and behaviour management practices.
Building partnerships with external professionals to strengthen learner support.
Using data to guide interventions and monitor progress.
Maintaining confidential records and uphold professional ethics.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Counselling Psychology.
Registered with the HPCSA as a counsellor.
Cultural competence ,inclusivity and experience in working with high school learners.
Strong interpersonal, communication and report-writing skills.
Empathetic, organized, and able to work well under pressure.
Police clearance to work with minors.
