Job Description

Central Gauteng Mental Health Society invites applications for the position of Registered or Professional Nurse (Possibly retired) to join our in-patient facility in Gordonia In-patient psychiatric facility.

We are looking for a dedicated, compassionate, and responsible nursing professional who is committed to providing quality mental health care and ensuring the well-being of our residents.

Key Responsibilities



The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care and supporting the daily functioning of the facility. Duties include, but are not limited to:

Clinical Care & Patient Support



Oversee the day-to-day running of the in-patient clinic to ensure a safe and supportive environment. Conduct routine patient monitoring, including taking daily vital signs and observing changes in residents' physical or mental health. Administer, issue, and manage prescribed medication in line with clinical protocols. Ensure patients adhere to their medication treatment plans and report any side effects or concerns. Assist with the assessment and admission of new residents.

Team Supervision & Programme Support



Supervise care workers and support staff, providing guidance, oversight, and ensuring quality service delivery. Work closely with the multidisciplinary team (social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists, doctors, etc.) to address residents' health and psychosocial needs. Participate in case conferences, staff meetings, and treatment review sessions to assess progress and contribute to care planning.

Coordination & External Engagement



Liaise with external healthcare facilities, clinics, and hospitals regarding patient consultations, referrals, and follow-up's. Partner with universities, TVET colleges, and community organisations to create training, learning, and employment opportunities for residents. Assist with planning and coordinating mental health awareness activities, fundraising events and outreach programmes.

Administration & Compliance



Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient files, nursing notes, and records in accordance with organisational, the Department and professional standards. Represent the organisation in meetings, audits, forums, and conferences when required. Contribute to the development and implementation of structured programmes that support the mental health and overall well-being of residents.
