Job Description

ACVV Huis Marie Louw is a well-established elder-care facility operating under ACVV policies, Department of Social Development (DSD) requirements, and the Minimum Norms and Standards. We're recruiting a clinically strong Registered Nurse to lead safe, person-centred care on shift.

Purpose of the role

Provide clinical leadership during your shift: implement and review individual care plans, ensure safe medication practices, maintain accurate records and reporting, coordinate the team on the floor, and coach care staff in-shift.

Reporting lines

Reports to: Nursing Manager Leads on shift: Enrolled Nurses, Enrolled Nursing Auxiliaries, Carers

Key responsibilities (shift-level)

Care planning & assessment: Complete DQ98 and vitals at admission; perform a clinical assessment within 48 hours to inform the care plan; review plans per policy (Group 2 & 3 two-monthly; Group 1 annually) and document updates. Medication safety: Administer medicines and controlled drugs per legal requirements; maintain MARs/CD registers; report/rectify discrepancies. Clinical oversight: Coordinate and allocate tasks at handover; monitor residents; escalate deterioration; ensure pressure-injury prevention, hygiene, and nutrition protocols are followed. Documentation & reporting: Maintain complete, legible records; complete incident reports and shift reports; contribute data for the monthly nursing report. Resident dignity & wellbeing: Maintain a bath/shower schedule (min. 2 x per week per resident) and ensure person-centred routines. Liaison & logistics: Liaise with medical practitioners; arrange resident transport for appointments when required. IPC compliance: Implement Infection Prevention & Control measures on shift; ensure PPE and isolation procedures are followed. Team leadership on shift: Provide clear delegation, supervision, and in-shift coaching; ensure attendance registers are signed and staff report on time; uphold uniform and name-badge standards. Committees/meetings: Attend Residents' Committee/house meetings when rostered; provide clinical feedback to the Nursing Manager.

Minimum requirements

Registered Nurse (SANC) with current APC. 2-5 years' relevant experience (elder-care/frail-care advantageous). Proven competence in medication administration, care planning, clinical assessment (incl. DQ98) and accurate record-keeping. Strong shift leadership, delegation and communication skills. Computer literate (MS Word/Excel/Outlook). Proficient in Afrikaans and English (spoken and written).

Strong recommendations (advantageous)

Knowledge of the Older Persons Act 13 of 2006 and Minimum Norms & Standards. BLS/CPR current; exposure to palliative care/pain management. Familiarity with DSD compliance processes.
