Job Description

The purpose of the NICU Registered Nurse role is to provide specialised, high-acuity nursing care to critically ill and premature neonates within a technologically advanced and highly regulated intensive care environment. The RN is responsible for delivering precise, vigilant, and evidence-based neonatal care while ensuring patient safety, clinical excellence, and family-centred support. This role requires advanced clinical judgement, emotional resilience, and close collaboration with neonatologists and multidisciplinary teams to optimise neonatal outcomes.

Key Work Output and Accountabilities:

Deliver specialised neonatal intensive nursing care in line with best practice Monitor and manage critically ill neonates requiring intensive medical support Safely operate and monitor specialised NICU equipment Administer neonatal medication and treatments accurately Maintain precise, timeous, and accurate clinical documentation Support, educate, and communicate effectively with parents and families Ensure strict adherence to infection prevention and control protocols Respond effectively to emergency situations and neonatal resuscitation Collaborate with neonatologists and the multidisciplinary healthcare team

Requirements

Proven NICU experience in a private or public healthcare environment Ability to work under pressure in a critical care setting Strong clinical judgement and attention to detail Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays

Qualifications

Diploma or Degree in Nursing Current SANC registration NICU qualification and/or specialised neonatal training (essential)
