Specific Skills
Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in polymer research and development, preferably in the composites or coatings industries.
  • Proven track record of developing and commercializing new polymer products.
  • Experience managing a team of scientists and technicians.
Technical Skills:
  • In-depth knowledge of polymer chemistry, synthesis, and characterization techniques (e.g., GPC, DSC, TGA, FTIR, rheology).
  • Familiarity with polymer processing techniques such as open molding, closed molding pultrusion, filament winding, hot and cold press molding compounds (SMC and DMC) and coating application methods (e.g. brush, spray, coil coating).
  • Strong understanding of structure-property relationships in polymers.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools.
Soft Skills:
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a focus on innovation.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with sustainable or bio-based polymers.

Responsible For
  • We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Polymer Scientist to lead the research and development of new polymers and polymer-based products for the composites and coatings industries.
  • The successful candidate will manage a team of chemists and technicians, drive innovation, and contribute to the development of cutting-edge materials that meet market demands.
  • This role requires a strong background in polymer science, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to manage budgets and projects effectively.
Research & Development:
  • Lead the design, synthesis, and characterization of new polymers and polymer-based materials tailored for composites and coatings applications.
  • Develop innovative formulations to enhance performance, durability, and sustainability of polymer products.
  • Conduct experiments to optimize polymer properties such as mechanical strength, thermal stability, chemical resistance, and processability.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive products to identify opportunities for innovation.
Team Management:
  • Manage and mentor a team of chemists, technicians, and other R&D staff.
  • Assign tasks, set project goals, and ensure timely delivery of R&D objectives.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Project Management:
  • Plan and execute R&D projects from concept to commercialization, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, and marketing, to ensure successful product launches.
  • Monitor project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation
Budget & Resource Management:
  • Assist in the preparation and management of the R&D budget, including forecasting and cost control.
  • Identify and procure necessary equipment, materials, and resources for R&D activities.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of resources to maximize ROI.
Technical Expertise:
  • Provide technical support to internal teams and external customers, addressing polymer-related challenges and inquiries.
  • Analyze and interpret data from experiments, and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
Collaboration & Communication:
  • Work closely with sales and marketing teams to understand customer needs and market trends.
  • Collaborate with academic institutions, research organizations, and industry partners to leverage external expertise and resources.
  • Prepare technical reports, patents, and presentations for internal and external audiences.

  • Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Alternatively, a Master's degree with significant industry experience may be considered.
